Rousey on Ring Magazine Cover
Ronda Rousey on the cover of Ring Magazine
When I received my issue of Ring Magazine, the Bible of Boxing, I was thoroughly disappointed. I did not want to see Ronda Rousey on the cover. I don’t think she deserves that. The Ring is a Boxing publication and not mixed Martial Arts, the Rings editorial opinion was, some fans will be happy, some fans will be irritated, but its about expanding and growing the sport of boxing. I mean we never saw Steven Seagal on the cover of Ring Magazine, but we frequently saw him on the cover of Blackbelt magazine. Just because she has a big mouth and a big attitude doesn’t mean she needs to be on the cover. I also understand the Ring is a magazine and the magazine needs to make money, but at what point do you sell out? I am not a UFC fan, I am a boxing fan. But that is just me. I don’t want to see the Ring Magazine go out of business, and I wonder to make this drastic of a move could the magazine be in trouble? I don’t know but I would like the focus to be on boxing not UFC. Plus what has Rousey really done? 12-0? (we know she is now 12-1 this article is based on her cover shot on Ring Magazine not on her recent loss). Fighters in boxing really don’t start getting tested until they are 20-0, 25-0? That is when they start getting larger fights? Are we just the suffering at the expense of the UFC being so new? There is not enough history and fighter base to offer fighters with more fight history. I am all for the Ring making money, I have been a subscriber for years and love the Magazine. But lets keep it about boxing.
