Lomachenko vs. Sosa
Lomachenko vs. Sosa
4/8/17
Vasyl Lomachenko was heavily favored to dominate, and dominate he did, thoroughly outclassing Jason Sosa over nine rounds before Sosa’s corner mercifully stopped the fight, allowing Lomachenko to retain his WBO super featherweight title.
Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KO) won every second of the fight and every round of the fight, with little real resistance from a game and tough but woefully overmatched Sosa, who just had nothing to bother the Ukrainian star.
Lomachenko scored no knockdowns in the fight, but certainly not for lack of trying to deliver punishment. He rocked Sosa around plenty, and hurt him with some body shots in particular, which led to the stoppage. The fight was simply too one-sided for Sosa’s corner to allow it to continue any further.
What do you think of Lomachenko after this fight? How strong is his case for being No. 1 pound-for-pound? And who do you want to see him face next?
CompuBox: The numbers for this fight were a complete wipeout. Lomachenko landed 275 of 696 (40%) of his total punches, and 204 of 351 (58%) of his power shots, taking Sosa apart with precision. On the other side, Sosa landed just 68 of 286 (24%) of his total punches, and 58 of 199 (29%) of his power shots.
