Golovkin vs. Lemieux
Our plane lands in NYC, we catch a cab to our hotel, in the heart of Time Square, one block from Madison Square Garden.
Making our way through the bustling New York Streets, you could catch the tops of heads with GGG hats bobbing like buoys on the water ways during the rough weather days.
The press was out and about. The atmosphere was big! The crowd was sold out! In my mind I had no doubt Golovkin would crush Lemieux. But the feel on the street was very mixed.
We got to the Madison Square Garden at 6:58 pm after a three minute walk from our hotel. We watched the pre-fights all which were pretty good. A group of five guys from Philly were sitting behind us. Three figured Lemieux would win, two voting for Golovkin to pull out a victory. I called out a 5th round Knockout for Golovkin. Everyone around us claiming I was making a bold prediction. But me, I know Golovkin, he’s a killer. As he says.
“Big Drama Show!”
My fifth round prediction was my hope! My group of five all pulling for Golovkin.
A guy in the crowd above us kept yelling break his jaw, this was apart of the sound track for the entire evening, all 7 fights. The crowd was vibrant and loud!
From the ring of the bell in the first round Golovkin out classed Lemieux. Lemieux just didn’t have it. He was slow, his timing was off, he was just a grade below Golovkin.
From somewhere behind us someone yelled
“Golovkins going to knock his hair off” everyone around us forward and behind burst into laughter, Lemieux was being hit so hard is long haired Mohawk would fly all over his shaved head each time he got rocked. And get rocked he did.
In the fifth round when Lemieux went down I thought I had called it right. But he survived the round, close but not close enough. I though Lemieux did enough to win the 6th round but the rest went to GGG. It was a great fight and a great night for boxing! When the fight was stopped in the 8th round it was no surprise. Lemieux fought with heart and guts but was no match for Golovkin.
To be honest, I’ll tell you right here whether it’s Cotto or Canelo who fight Golovkin. They will not win! Golovkin will dominate them! Big Drama Show!!
– Just for the record, at the Glass Jaw we are predicting a decision victory for Canelo, remember both these guys look great against average fighters, but how they will do against great fighter is questionable as they have not produced thus far!
