Fury vs. Wilder

How I became a Tyson Fury Fan.

Wilder vs. Fury

Dec 1st 2018

Staples Center

Los Angeles, CA.

When the fight started I was a huge Deontay Wilder fan. Committed to the success of the US Boxing program. But watching the fight was sort of like watching Rocky IV. When Rocky went to Russia everyone was against him. But by the time the fight was over they were cheering Rocky Rocky Rocky.

I hated the Klitschko / Fury fight. It was horrible. Then I watched Fury vs. Wilder and I thought this Brit is pretty smart. And he’s one terrific fighter. I had the first two rounds going to Wilder. He was clearly the aggressor and not a lot of points were scored for either opponent. But after round 2 I felt that Fury won all but the two rounds he was knocked down in and the 6th. Round. Therefore my score card looked like this.

Round 1

10-9 Wilder.

Round 2

10-9 Wilder.

Round 3

10-9 Fury

Round 4

10-9 Fury

Round 5

10-9 Fury

Round 6

10-9 Wilder

Round 7

10-9 Fury

Round 8

10-9 Fury

Round 9

10-8 Wilder

Round 10

10-9 Fury

Round 11

10-9 Fury

Round 12

10-8 Wilder.

Scoring the fight

113-115 for Fury.

Now a round here or there could have gone either way. In the 12th when Fury was down, I counted him down 13 seconds so having said that, by KO Wilder should have won the fight. Which outweighs Fury’s boxing skill because the KO is more substantial than the pointing. But that’s not how the fight was called, so on points it’s a Fury fight. I believe boxing has a justice of its own. That’s why we saw a draw because on some level both fighters actually won this fight, in my opinion. Boxing eventually rights its own wrongs.

During the fight I was screaming for Wilder. But after, I realized what a TRUE champion Fury was, and is. I mean how he got off the mat after Wilder floored him was unreal. It was insane. I have never seen anything like it in my life. But not only did he get up he fought hard the rest of the round. His mind game and boxing game was far superior to Wilders. His boxing was beautiful. His heart was that of a lion and his mind controlled Wilders boxing and emotion. Fury taunted Wilder throughout the fight. Wilder abandoned his fight plan and went crazy for the KO, I’m sure due to the things that Fury was whispering to him. Wilder never had a chance, his raw emotion couldn’t deal with the talking and taunting delivered by Fury. Wilder was vastly outplayed. The card he had, and utilized, was his beastly strength and punching power. Which saved him. Because when Wilder connects its lights out.

Fury, has come from nothing, become world champion, given up his belts, went off the deep end, beat depression, alcoholism and drug addiction, and fought his way back. Incredible story.

Wilder came from nothing for his daughter, powerful story, became heavy weight champ, then dumped his wife and four kids for a trophy model (he met at the airport)., dressed himself in gold and fancy cars and become what? I guy who forgot where he came from. I see a champion with a lack of character. His character is as hollow as the gold crown he walked into the ring with.

Putting all this in perspective I saw the lack of Wilders  character appear in the ring. Wilders gold mask was over the top, not humble, but gaudy. It was to much. (I liked the good old Bronze Bomber). When it came to the end, I felt like Wilder didn’t have the heart to beat Fury. He failed to finish him after the first knockdown. He just needed to push a little harder. He quit the following round. Didn’t do anything. Had he hammered Fury that following round, on my card he would have won the fight. But he didn’t. And when he cold cocked Fury in the 12th he looked worn out and didn’t finish him. Wilder looked like he was the one who got knocked down. Fury came back with the Heart of a Champion. Had Wilder pushed a little bit harder he could have finished Fury. But he didn’t have it. He didn’t have the eye of the tiger, he didn’t have the heart, he didn’t have the character. He was flat.

When Fury got up from the blow I was shocked. At the time devastated, but as I thought about it I discovered I had become a Tyson Fury fan.  And I hope he beats Wilder and Joshua. I believe he can.

For the last year and a half I have struggled with boxing. The fights haven’t been great, the scoring is terrible and no one has taken charge. After Saturday night I feel like Fury is the man to lead boxing into the future. I’m excited about boxing again. I needed re-fueling and that fight did it for me! Fury will have to dig deep against Wilder (if they fight again). Wilder will be ready for the head games, he will be prepared for the boxing, and he has the bronze bombs, so statically I give him the edge in the second fight. But I know Fury will come ready as well and I hope the self proclaimed Gypse King holds on to his crown. But time will tell! I’m greatly looking forward to the rematch. As I sign off, I’m squarely in the corner of Tyson Fury! –

PS. I love how fury Gives Glory to God!
