Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao – pound for pound – May 2nd.
May 2nd 2015 Mayweather will fight Pacquiao. This is the fight boxing fans and boxing has been waiting for for the last 7 years. Yes, it is going to happen. Floyd announced yesterday through social media platform called SHOTS. The fight will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.
The money split is a 60-40 split in favor of Mayweather. Mayweather held the cards all throughout the the negotiations. The fight will be a unification title match for the welterweight title. Pacquiao will be 36, Mayweather will be 38. These two fighters are still the best in boxing, some say a little too late, I say better late than never. And you know what they say, “always late but worth the wait.” This will be one of the greatest fights of all time.
I believe going into this fight Floyd has the advantage, he has his masterful defense, he has the reach, the height, and he took everything he could off the table in the negotiations. Many speculated this fight would be held elsewhere, but it is back where Floyd is Comfortable. The MGM grand. This fight is great for boxing, it doesn’t make boxing but is great for the sport, it gets people excited and talking about the sport. For me I am very excited to see this fight happen. Like all true hard core boxing fans, I have been waiting seven years for this fight to happen. This fight has been like the ocean, up down, stormy, windy, calm, a ride of emotions.
This will be the biggest boxing event in the history of boxing. It will out sell the payperview numbers set by De La Hoya vs. Mayweather, it will set the highest dollars accrued for a payperview fight which was previously held by Mayweather vs. Alvarez. This will be the single biggest event in boxing history.
This fight will be shared by HBO and Showtime, this is only the second time this has happened, it happened back in 2002 between Tyson and Lewis. Which turned out to be a disappointing fight if you ask me, I was pulling for Tyson, and saw him do very little. This will also widen the draw for the fight and will hopefully add payperview numbers. I believe it will be a very good production. I enjoy the analysts from both HBO and Showtime.
The fight contract was signed several days before the fight was announced. Mayweather held the time of delivery as the A side fighter. He waited to release, do to rumors of leaks from the Top Rank side of things, these leaks are rumored to have irritated Mayweather, who by the way has no love lost for Top Rank promotions.
Nevertheless the fight is here, it is exciting, and it will be a great show! We are glad to finally see the best fight the best. We will continue reporting on the fight as the fight comes closer.
