Mayweather vs. Pacquiao – THE TRUTH

Now that the dust has settled, and the reports have been filed I figured we would write about the biggest fight in sports history.

Let’s be honest, this was the biggest fight in sports history because the world wanted to see Floyd Mayweather lose. It was not the biggest fight because people wanted to watch Floyd win. I get sick and tired of hearing people talk about how Mayweather just ran… blah blah blah…. My question is do you watch boxing? If so you will know that Mayweather fought the fight he always fights, and he fought brilliantly. He made Pacquiao ineffective, like he does to every fighter. We watched Canelo dominate Kirkland in an explosive fight the next week, but remember, correctly, how Mayweather totally dominated Canelo? It wasn’t even a fight. Mayweather makes great fighters look average. And he made Pacquiao look average.

The onus was on Manny Pacquiao. He was the one who had everything to prove and nothing to lose and everything to gain. The world was watching this fight to watch Manny Pacquiao tear Floyd Mayweather apart. Manny Pacquiao failed to bring the fight to Mayweather. But the flash, the Jazz, the X factor that made Pacquiao so explosive was gone he did not bring it. He failed. I knew the fight was over when Manny Pacquiao and Freddy Roach walked out of the tunnel taking selfies. Pictures on there stupid I Phones before the biggest fight in the history of the sport of boxing. A fight that could have changed the landscape of boxing forever. But Pacquiao didn’t have it. I knew it the minute the came out the tunnel and disappointment swept over me and hit me like a ton of bricks. What a joke…

Mayweather on the other hand was as focused as I have ever seen him. He came to fight. And fight he did. Floyd looked as good as I have ever seen him look. A true champion. A credit to the fight game.

After the fight during interviews in the ring Pacquiao did not mention his shoulder. During the fight he did not favor one arm over the other. There was no attention to his shoulder by his corner. There was no visible discussion of shoulder pain. When Kobe Bryant tore his rotator cuff. He couldn’t even move his shoulder or his arm. I don’t believe for a second that this injury was a factor in this fight. And my perception of Pacquiao is forever damaged for even bringing this into the light of the fight analytics.

I get it, if there was an injury Pacquiao had to fight, he may not have ever had the chance again. A delay could end the fight we had all been waiting for, for so long. Pacquiao was being tough, (if he had the injury), but if had the injury he should have kept his mouth shut and remained tough. After his shoulder claim, he ended up looking more like that bad guy than Floyd.

Fighting is a mean nasty sport, filled with corruption, drugs, blood, knockouts, injuries, suspensions, gambling, money, by offs, pay outs, fixes, and bribes. So to say a guy is a bad guy in a bad sport is the pot calling the kettle black. But we love this sport because of all its many black eyes, heroes and villains.

To conclude this article, Floyd fought Floyd’s brilliant, masterful fight. He was focused and driven a Champion. Manny never showed up, I don’t think Manny Pacquiao has truly come to fight since his epic controversial loss to Timothy Bradley. Pacquiao owned Bradley, the entire fight, then when the cards were read aloud, Pacquiao lost…… And part of Pacquiao died. You could see the shock, awe, and disappointment sweep across him. From that fight on, when boxing did him wrong, (boxing just doing what boxing always does), we lost the better part of Manny Pacquiao. It reminded me of the Movie Brave Heart with Mel Gibson, when he was betrayed by Robert the Bruce, sitting in the field all hope crushed and destroyed, that’s how boxing left Manny Pacquiao with that crooked decision. Remember when Tyson sat down mid fight and was done fighting, coming out for one last needed pay day, I believe that is what we saw from Pacquiao, one last pay day, he didn’t sit down literally, but when he came walking out of the locker room taking selfies, you knew something was desperately wrong. Hats off to you Mr. Mayweather, great fight and performance, but don’t think Mayweather hasn’t seen the ugly face of boxing, we has robbed as an amateur fighter in the Olympics. Boxing takes your best, and one way or another breaks your heart.

That why the world hated the outcome of the Mayweather fight, all the hopes and dreams of individuals, and countries were on Manny Pacquiao, money was on Manny Pacquiao, visions of his victory was just around the corner. And at the end of the day, Manny was the bad guy, he came for the money, and deceived the world….and the world had its heart broken, just like so many boxers before it. The talk around the water coolers was how everybody was scammed out of there $100.00 worth of paper view money, and the fight was a bust. A scam. Hearts were broken and disappointed. But I say it was beautiful because that is boxing. It’s mean, nasty, and crucial. Modern day gladiators fighting for glory… Well Mr. Mayweather I hope you are able to ride out into the sunset… Just like SHANE…

In the words of one of the greatest boxers of all time.. Johnny Tapia – Mi Vida Loca- My Crazy Life- that is boxing – a crazy life, – love it or hate it, that’s boxing.
